It’s important we are all taking into consideration our impact on the world and that includes our wedding day. By making small changes, it’s easy to reduce your carbon footprint on your wedding day. Here are 5 simple tips to have a more eco friendly wedding.
1. Only invite those closest to you.
By keeping the invite list to those nearest and dearest to you, you are ensuring that there is no unnecessary waste. This impacts everything. Smaller venue, less food, less cleaning and less table decorations which will also create a more intimate wedding.
2. Ask your florist to use no foam
Floral foam is a non-biodegradable material that can take hundreds of years to decompose. When it does break down, it releases harmful chemicals into the air, soil and water. Floral foam also contains toxic chemicals which can be harmful to the florist and anyone that comes into contact with it.
3. Opt for a wedding website over physical invitations
It goes without saying why you shouldn’t use physical invites if you want a more eco friendly wedding. From the invites themselves, to the envelope, the stamp and any additional information cards, they will all eventually end up in the bin.
4. Say no to sparklers and smoke bombs
Sparklers might look great in your photos but once they are out, all that is left is a metal stick that will end up in the bin. And for smoke bombs, they release harmful chemicals into the air, which can be harmful to plants and wildlife.
5. Don't have unnecessary favours
Let’s face it, most people do not care for your favours. Especially a nick nack that has meaning to you but no one else. If you really want to give your guests a gift, opt for an edible gift – cookies, chocolate etc, something that won’t end up in the bin.
