Lucy & Aidan’s intimate Ratho Farm wedding

Welcome to our Real weddings – Vendi Style . Our very own Vendi, Ed, from Edward Noel Photo shared with us one of his favourite weddings from the 2022/2023 wedding season. It’s a beautiful, intimate day without your typical wedding day traditions and we are in love!

A wedding far from traditional, Lucy & Aidan’s Ratho farm wedding was unique, intimate and exactly the day they envisaged without added fluff or ‘must do’s’. A true reminder that your day is about you and your partner and no one else.

At its core, Lucy & Aidan’s wedding was simply two people getting married. A very untraditional wedding in most ways with no wedding party and no family at the ceremony, just themselves, the celebrant, Ed the photographer and a witness from their venue (Ratho farm). As a sign of support, Lucy’s father walked her to the door of the barn where they were getting married in but did not enter.

After an hour of photos post ceremony, Lucy & Aidan joined their family and friends to party the night away with an American style BBQ food van and a massive savoury grazing table. A local duo playing the banjo and singing covers kept everyone entertained for the first couple of hours followed by a DJ as Lucy & Aidan and all their guests partied on into the night.

The vibe:

‘Warm, quiet and intimate ceremony followed by a really fun unstructured party.’

What did you love about this wedding?

‘Ratho farm took us to get some photos with newborn lambs. This was pretty special and really cute.’

Did the couple include anything unique you haven’t seen at a wedding before?

‘At the ceremony Lucy & Aidan did a “rock off” (scissors paper rock) for who would read their vows first.’

Why was this a standout wedding?

‘This wedding was super relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. I saw very little stress or anxiety, just two people getting married and then having a party with their friends and family.

There were a few hiccups with the weather not participating (this is pretty standard in Tasmania). Aidan made the last minute call to move the ceremony inside and quickly deck out the barn with a few candles and a quick sweep before Lucy walked in. The barn had a wedding recently and there were some leftover dried natives and foliage still up, which we decided to leave there for a bit of a nod to the outdoor ceremony that they originally wanted.

There were no cheesy traditions and everything was exactly how Lucy and Aidan wanted it – Casual relaxed, fun and a bit cheeky. They had an American style BBQ food van and a massive savoury grazing table which was great! They also had a local duo playing banjo and singing covers for the first couple of hours and then DJing for the rest of the night. Good music always makes a wedding stand out to me!’
